SA menswear week Summer 2022

Candace DiTalamo

I supply an amazing little boutique in Kenilworth, Cape Town. When I say little, I mean little in size but BIG in personality. They are stocked from over 40 local designers and I am in love with this magical treasure filled shop. Bridgette Pickering ( owner Therapy and Rufftung ) and Di Forster ( Therapy ) really go out of their way to make a customer look and feel great. They are women who like to to support and inspire other women. That is how KINK ended up being one of the ten designers, part of the Therapy Capsule, walking the runway with five looks at the SA menswear fashion week this year.

Therapy capsule was part of the autumn/winter show in March, we designed three looks each and I was incredibly nervous. I am not a fashion designer I am an illustrator. I don't create fashion designs, I up-cycle, reimagine and KINK pre-loved garments so you can imagine my imposter syndrome. I would have felt even more out of place if it were not for Bridgette's and Di's encouragement and support. Everyone from the organisers to the models were professional, friendly and collaborative so the evening ended up being really enjoyable.

We then hit the runway again in November with our own segment of five designs each. I was shaking so much that I had to keep my hands in my pockets. It was all really scary hard work but I feel so grateful that I could push myself beyond my creative borders. In the end I am incredibly proud of putting myself out there and of my collection that I created.
